Head Coach Sug Parker
Coach Sug Parker is a native of Washington County, Georgia where he attended Washington County High School. While in high school, he played under Dartez Talbott. As a junior, his team won the AA State Basketball Title in 1994. Parker went on to play for Brewton-Parker College and in four years he set records for men single game scoring with 46 points and became the all-time scoring leading with 2045 point in his collegiate career. He graduated with a degree in Sport and Fitness and a minor in coaching. After receiving his degree, Parker went to Australia and played professional ball for the Maroochydore Clipper and recorded a game high of 42 points. In 2003, he was inducted into the Brewton Parker College Hall of Fame. His jersey was officially retired in 2012.
Coach Sug Parker began his coaching career as an assistant coach for Brewton Parker College men’s basketball program. He assisted Head Coach Steve Barker in whom he played under for 4 years. Coach Parker became the Brewton Parker College Head Women’s Coach and went 15-14 his first year as Head Coach. A year later, he returned to his roots in Washington County Georgia as the Head Girls’ Coach. Parker inherited a struggle program in 2008-2009 in winning only 14 games in the two previous years. In his first year, he was able to bring his philosophy of discipline, character, loyalty, and a work hard attitude into the program, and in his first season they went 22-7 and advanced to the state playoffs for the first time in 10 years. In his 2nd year the Lady Hawks went 25-3 advancing to the Sweet 16. In his 3rd year, Coach Parker and the Lady Hawks captured the AAA State Championship Title with a record of 32-0 and being the only team in any classification to go undefeated. In the 4th year they went 31-1 being the state runner-up, 5th year 27-2 and 6th year 26-1 advancing to the Elite 8 in both seasons. The Lady Hawks Basketball Program has won 5 consecutive Region Champions since 2009.
Parker gives credit to the administration, players, coaches, and God for making each season special.Coach Parker wears many hats, one of which is a local Pastor at the Word of life Church under the Leadership of Michael and Tabitha Parker. He serve there as an Elder and Youth Pastor. Parker is married to Valerie Parker in whom he met at Washington County High School, and they have three kids, Christopher, Joshua, and Miracle Parker.
Assistant Coach Eartha Cummings-Hicks
Coach Eartha Cummings-Hicks is a native of Washington County, Georgia where she attended Washington County High School (WACO). While in high school, she played basketball under the legendary Coach Alfred Carson. She graduated from Georgia Southwestern State University with a bachelor degree in Business Administration and master degree from Valdosta State University in Special Education. She has been teaching in public education for six years.
Coach Cummings as she is known began her coaching career as an assistant coach for the T.J. Elder Middle School boys’ team for one year and girls’ team for two. This is her first year as an assistant coach for the WACO Lady Hawks varsity team. She believes it is the coaches’ job to not only develop the level of play of the team as a whole but to take each individual athlete for who they are and assist them in reaching their full potential. She believes in helping players develop character because their talents can open doors for them but it is character that will keep them there.
Coach Cummings is married to Cornelius Hicks and has two grown sons Cardenal Coleman Jr. and Exavyer Coleman whom both were accomplished athletes while attending WACO.
Assistant Coach Colleen Kitchens
Coach Colleen Kitchens is a former native of Warren County, Georgia. She quickly developed the heart of a “Golden Hawk” when she began attending Washington County Schools from middle school until graduating from high school. While in high school, she was an accomplished three sport student athlete. She received many award and honors for outstanding efforts in cross country, basketball, and track. She was a recipient of the legendary Alfred C. Carson Award/Scholarship. Upon graduation, she received a basketball scholarship to Voorhees College in Denmark, SC where she continued to play the game she loves until injury. She was also a member of the Voorhees College Cross Country team. Coach Kitchens graduated from Augusta State University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and currently pursuing a Master’s degree from Georgia Regents University. She is a second year Health and Physical Education teacher at Ridge Road Primary School.
Coach Kitchens is approaching her first year as the WACO Lady Hawks JV head coach and as an assistant coach for the Varsity team. She believes it’s the coaches’ moral duty to develop players to have a cohesive and responsible character for each of their teammates due to the fact that the actions of one individual can affect the success of the entire team. She believes in coaching fundamentals, team skills, and life skills. Athletic talent may only be for a season but a positive character is the road map to success.
